“For the word of God is alive and powerful.” Hebrews 4:12a

An easy way to get started is to use the SOAP method. SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's word.
Scripture: Once you have read your daily portion of scripture go back and simply underline or make note of any verses that jump out at you with special significance.
Observation: Once you have done that ask yourself these questions: What was it about that scripture that caught my attention? What is the scripture saying? Take time to paraphrase and write the scripture in your own words.
Application: Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself - how does it apply to your life right now? Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a promise, or a correction. How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life today?
Prayer: This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He wants to teach you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!
